about
A song that was written in 2011 in over a couple of days on a September weekend. Recorded 2012-13. One crisp October morning, the great Edwyn Collins tweeted about the beauty of an autumn morning walk and I replied, offering this as a soundtrack for it. To my everlasting delight, he responded with this: 'Hi Terry Good song, piano and Vox, beautiful -Edwyn.' Confidence buoyed, I uploaded to BBC Introducing and legendaryTom Robinson, @freshnet himself played it on his Saturday night show and put on the BBC Introducing Mixtape for that week. All of which I am very grateful for. It's a song I revisit every year and try not to clutter up as I remix it.
lyrics
've been looking at flickering streetlamps
Lighting October orange scenes
I've been shielding my heart from the cold and the damp
I've been running on empty dreams
Of a million might have beens
I've been turning the textbook pages
Wondering what I'm supposed to know
I've been counting the stages that I have been through
And the ones left to undergo
Pray to God that you take it slow
Back to the time and place where love began
Into the empty space I need to start again
In a prelude to a world of crystal fantasy
There's an ache I long to make into a sigh
Then overdose on blank romantic poetry
And let the hollow season pass me by
